10:00 am - 11:00 am. Taught by Meiya Sally Muñoz and Lynn Murphy.
This class is for second, third and fourth graders, learning how to be present, how to focus on this moment, and how to take this practice home, to continue practicing on their own.
We will explore:
Mindful listening
Mindful breathing
Mindful seeing
Mindful movement
Mindful eating
Mindfulness of thoughts
Mindfulness of emotions
Heartfulness: cultivating positive states such as kindness, generosity and gratitude
The class is limited to 10 children, with a wait list available.
We will also use Thich Nhat Hanh’s “pebble practice”, a tangible way to continue our meditation practice using four pebbles representing different images in nature.
Sally Muñoz is a senior member of Houston Zen Center. She taught third grade at Duchesne Academy for 30 years. She also began a program at Duchesne Academy to teach mindfulness to second, third, and fourth graders.
Lynn Murphy is a member of HZC. She is a child and adult psychotherapist currently in private practice. Previously she has worked at DePelchin Children’s Center, Houston Child Guidance Center and Texas Children’s Hospital as a clinician, supervisor and teacher.
