DIVERSITY & MULTICULTURALISM

Everyone is welcome at the Houston Zen Center, all people, of all histories, circumstances, and abilities. The practice of studying the self that we cultivate in Zen includes an open–hearted awareness and investigation of the ways that social identities open us to connection and also erect barriers to our connection with one another. We believe that the lucidity of beginner’s mind enables us to form a beloved community that welcomes people of all genders, races, ethnicities, sexual orientation, classes, nationalities, ages, and abilities.

Creating Access, Connection, and Opportunity Over the course of the coming years we will build on our many years of Buddhist teachings by responding to the needs of an increasingly volatile, uncertain, and complex world by developing Zen programs and extending our ability to be a quiet, yet powerful force for a better world. We will continue to find new ways to offer Zen practice to an ever-widening circle of practitioners, providing improved access, opportunity, connection and support.

Houston Zen Center is comprised of a diverse group of practitioners. Our Kaleidoscope Working Group focuses on on–going study, discussion and action on issues of diversity and multiculturalism.

The group meets regularly and schedules workshops throughout the year.
