6 Mondays, August 26 - September 30, 2019, 6:30-8:30 pm. Taught by Kenkai Brandon Lamson
This class focuses on a close reading and study of Dogen Zenji’s important fascicle titled Gyoji Dokan, The Circle of the Way in Continuous Practice. We will look at different translations of the text in order to clarify our understanding of key ideas in Dogen's approach to Zen practice. The class will be discussion based, and participants will have opportunities to share their questions and responses to the text.
Each class begins with a period of meditation followed by a discussion.
The text for the course is one chapter (fascicle) in Dogen Zenji’s Shobogenzo, available in Kaz Tanahashi’s translation, and in Nishijima and Cross’s translation. The Nishijima and Cross text is available here as a free downloadable pdf. Photocopies are also available in the Zen Center office.
