4 Mondays, November 14 - December 21, 6:30-8:30 pm, led by Kōkai Kent Rutter.
In this class, we will read and discuss seven dharma talks by Tenshin Reb Anderson Roshi on the practice of zazen.
Guided by Tenshin Roshi's teachings, we will look beyond the formal aspects of zazen practice, such as posture and concentration, to explore how the forms open us up to the formless. As Tenshin Roshi teaches:
The ceremonial forms are opportunities for people to embrace, and be embraced by, the inconceivable totality of zazen. They are dharma gateways for the body and mind to manifest the truth of zazen.
This class is appropriate for anyone with an established meditation practice, whether you've been sitting for a few months or many years.
The text for the class will be Tenshin Roshi's book Warm Smiles from Cold Mountains: Dharma Talks on Zen Meditation
Each class will begin with a period of zazen.
Kōkai Kent Rutter is a long-time member of Houston Zen Center. He is also an attorney.
