Celebrate the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha on April 7 @ 11:30 am after the dharma talk. The ceremony includes birthday cake. Shakyamuni Buddha was born nearly 2642 years ago, in about 623 b.c.e., in Lumbini, in Northern India.
In Zen ceremonies, we circumambulate around the little altar, and take turns pouring a little sweet tea over the figure of the baby Buddha.
It is a joyous occasion to celebrate the birth of awakening, and of an awakened being.
Everyone is welcome to the ceremony; children especially.
