Shindō Neely Atkinson
A series of 4 Monday Classes April 20 – May 11, 2026
6:30-8:30 pm. Taught by Rev. Shindō Neely Atkinson
Joko Beck’s 1989 book Everyday Zen introduced readers to a fresh approach to living a life of Zen practice. Her teachings focus on the problems and experiences of our daily lives and how Zen can use our emotions and thoughts as vehicles for awakening.
Her approach made Zen seem accessible to many who felt Zen was too esoteric or removed from daily life to be available to people grappling with jobs, children, relationships, and all the activities that fill our lives. She helped transform the practice of Zen in the West while remaining true to the essential roots of its Eastern heritage.
In this class, we will read and discuss selected chapters from Everyday Zen and see if we can continue to unfold this way of approaching our daily practice.
This class is open to all, regardless of level of experience or practice.
Zoom participation will also be available. The link will be provided before the class begins.
