Hōdō Zack Becker
Mondays, October 19 - November 9, 6:30-8:30 pm. Taught by Hōdō Zack Becker
In this 4-week class series we will explore the question: What happens when we stop demanding certainty before we are willing to meet our life? We will deeply consider what it means to make room for the unknown, examine our desire for control, explore the stories we have around our identities and views, and practice acting from vow and intention.
The texts for each class will draw from Zen writings, both ancient and modern, that address the reality of uncertainty. The instructor will provide the readings via PDF in advance of class.
Class 1: “Not Knowing” and becoming intimate with the unknown.
Class 2: Impermanence, the desire for control, and the dynamic flux of life.
Class 3: Stories of boundlessness/emptiness, and fixed or inflexible views.
Class 4: Action and Vow: Acting from vow (intentional action) and “not-knowing” (intimacy with the unforeseeable).
Each class begins with a period of meditation followed by a presentation and discussion. The class is open to everyone. It is a topic appropriate for both beginners to Zen and advanced meditators. Zoom participation is also available.
Scholarships are available. Send a message to Stephen for information.
