A Weekend Event: November 9 & 10. Taught by Abbot Gaelyn Godwin and guest professionals.
Much of our fear arises from fear of death. An essential part of spiritual practice is to face the fact of our inevitable death and prepare for it. To do this can be a gift to our family and friends. The classes include Buddhist meditations on death, writing advance directives, learning about the biological facts of death, and learning about palliative care and hospice.
The first day provides (a) an introduction to the topic, (b) a presentation of Buddhist teachings on death and dying; and (c) meditation and practices. Dr. Marvin Delgado Guay, a specialist in geriatric and palliative care at MD Anderson, will teach the section on palliative care.
The second day includes more information on the Buddhist approach, as well as instructions in preparation of Advance Directives. Kagen Leo Golub, the Chair of Houston Zen Center’s finance committee, will teach the section on financial preparations: estate planning and preparing a will.
Saturday November 9: from 9 am — 3 pm. Sunday November 10: from noon — 3 pm. $200 for the weekend. HZC members: $75.
