Practicing with Joyful Effort and Zoom.

Sue will lead this half-day event from her home in Berkeley, California. We will join from our own homes, or from the Center, depending on the status of the pandemic. Abbot Gaelyn will attend and manage the Zoom connection.

The day will be focused on the Paramita of Energy, or Effort, especially the quality of Joyful Effort. In these unpredictable and frightening times, we will come together in sangha and support each other as we cultivate joyful effort. The good news is that joyful effort is not dependent on muscle power, youth, or even health. We’ll sit and walk, listen and talk, and do some simple writing exercises to bring forth the shining vitality that is within each of us. We can develop vigor together—it’s contagious. Our planet needs our joyful effort.

Sue is a writer, editor, and lay teacher in the Soto Zen tradition. She is the author of a number of books about Buddhism, including This is Getting Old: Zen Thoughts on Aging with Humor and Dignity, and, with Norman Fischer, What Is Zen? Plain Talk for a beginner’s Mind.

If you have any questions, please contact the Heads of Practice, Louise Dreyfus or Gayle Klaybor.

The Zoom link will be provided once everyone has signed up. This will be a warm and positive way to connect with the teachings, and with a great Dharma teacher.
