Ceremony of Ordination as a Zen Priest

The universal mudra, in position on a priest’s robe during zazen.

You are cordially invited to attend the Ceremony of Ordination, or Tokudo, for Houston Zen Center members Shindō Neely Atkinson and Kenkai Brandon Lamson.

In this ancient ceremony, the initiates will receive and recite the 16 Bodhisattva Precepts from Abbot Gaelyn. Each initiate has sewn a Buddhist robe, or okesa, as well as a bowing mat and rakusu. Each initiate will formally receive the robes and formal begging bowls. The ceremony will take place in the Zendo of Houston Zen Center, with a modest zoom access available. For those who have already received the precepts, this is an opportunity to celebrate and refresh your own Bodhisattva vows.

Please RSVP to Stephen.

Great congratulations to the two new novice priest Bodhisattvas. For further information, please contact the co-Tantos, Vicki Glenn and Gayle Klaybor, the co-Heads of Practice of Houston Zen Center.
