Sejiki Ceremony - Bringing Peace to the Departed

Sejiki altar

This yearly ceremony honors everyone who has passed away, all our friends and loved ones, all those we revere, and all those who are forgotten by others. We especially want to name and honor those who have passed away over the last year. During the ceremony, we dedicate the merit to those who are at rest. It brings comfort to those who may be ill at ease and unsettled.

You can attend in person. Virtual attendance is available also.

During the course of the ceremony, the names of people the congregation has designated are read aloud and the congregation chants the Gate of Sweet Dew. The ceremony is very lively at the beginning, in the spirit of calling out to distracted spirits to invite them in.

This ceremony is open to everyone. Everyone can send names to Stephen. Please write the full name, with pronunciation indicated if it is necessary. Please write the date of the death if you know it. The names of beloved animals are welcome, please note the species. Note that family members’ names of on-going HZC members remain on the list, so your family members’ names will be read every year.
