Ceremony of Formally Receiving the Bodhisattva Precepts

A new rakusu (Buddhist robe) for a new Bodhisattva (awakening being).

A new rakusu (Buddhist robe) for a new Bodhisattva (awakening being).

You are cordially invited to attend the Ceremony of Receiving the Bodhisattva Precepts, or Jukai, for Houston Zen Center members Bob Cavnar, Terry Chen, Karen King, Matthew Sullivan, and Daniel Zamora.

In this ancient ceremony, the initiates will receive and recite the 16 Bodhisattva Precepts from Abbot Gaelyn. Each initiate has sewn a Buddhist robe, or rakusu. Each initiate will formally receive the rakusu along with a Buddhist name and the lineage chart showing their place in the long line of Zen practitioners from the time of Shakyamuni Buddha. The ceremony will take place outside on the front lawn of the center, with a limited number of friends and family in attendance. Everyone is invited to participate via zoom. For those of you who have already received the precepts, this is an opportunity to celebrate and refresh your own Bodhisattva vows.

Please RSVP to Joy. You can enter the ceremony here.

Great congratulations to the five new Bodhisattvas. For further information, please contact the co-Tantos, Gayle Klaybor and Vicki Glenn, the co-Heads of Practice of Houston Zen Center.
