Dharma Talk by Terry Conrad.

Terry Conrad is a Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Teacher and Director of Project Clear Light.

Based in Galveston, Terry has been sponsoring programs with inmates at the maximum security prison in Beaumont, Texas, since 2004. He teaches meditation, an ethics course based on the Dalai Lama’s book Ethics for the New Millenium and a Lojong correspondence course.

The sole purpose and intent of Project Clear Light is to bring the peaceful and soothing Dharma teachings into the lives of participating offenders, to guide them in their understanding of these teachings and practices, and to become a bright clear light unto the world.

Vicki Glenn: The Six Paramitas Half Day Sitting

Join the Practice Period in a half day of practice with Shuso Vicki Glenn. Co-Tantos Louise Dreyfus and Gayle Klaybor will introduce the day. This is the second half-day sitting of the Summer 2020 Practice Period. We look forward to continuing to develop and deepen practice together.

The day will be focused on zazen and the Six Paramitas, especially the Paramitas of Energy and Meditation. Both practices can ground and support us, everyone around us, and the whole world.

Zengetsu Vicki Glenn is the Shuso / Head Monk, during the Summer 2020 Practice Period. She is also the head teacher of Zen sewing, and a teacher of middle-school band during the school year.

Hank Lazer: Poetry and Zen

Dharma Talk by Hank Lazer, a poet.

This Sunday, Hank Lazer, a longtime Zen practitioner and poet, will give a cloud dharma talk. Hank is a well-known poet.

He has been a Zen practitioner for approximately 20 years, principally with instruction from his long-time friend Norman Fischer. Lazer has taken part in sesshins at the Upaya Zen Center, Mar de Jade (in Chacala, Nayarit, Mexico – where he went through the jukai ceremony), and the Rohatsu Sesshin this past December at the Houston Zen Center. He lives in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where for the past four years he has convened a weekly meditation for the Quiet Tide Sangha. In his retirement, he teaches a seminar Zen Buddhism & Radical Approaches to the Arts at the University of Alabama where he was an administrator and professor for nearly 40 years. He has published thirty-one books of poetry, including the recently released Slowly Becoming Awake (N32) (2019, Dos Madres Press) and Poems That Look Just Like Poems (2019, PURH – one volume in English, one in French). In 2015, Lazer received Alabama’s most prestigious literary prize, the Harper Lee Award, for lifetime achievement in literature.
