Sunday May 7 at 3 pm - Join the Jukai (Receiving Precepts) Ceremony. Two members of HZC, Lynn Snow and Anne Thompson, will receive the 16 Bodhisattva Precepts from Abbot Gaelyn in this lovely ancient ceremony. If you've already received the precepts, you can refresh them Sunday. The ceremony lasts about half an hour -- but the precepts last for a very long time!Read More

Celebrate the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha with cake, chanting, flowers and a sweet ceremony. Everyone is welcome, children as well as adults. The ceremony begins shortly after the end of the Sunday dharma talk. The ceremony takes place in the garden, near the fountain. Can you see the little baby Buddha under the flowery canopy?

We begin with a brief morning service (chanting), followed by indoor and outdoor activities. Everyone is encouraged to join in the Zen practice of working together.

February 14, beginning at 2 pm, the Center will be closed for the February retreat led by Tenshin Reb Anderson Roshi, Senior Dharma Teacher of San Francisco Zen Center. The Center will reopen for the Sunday Dharma Talk, February 19 9:45 am, then close again until evening zazen at 6 pm.
The regular schedule resumes Sunday night, February 19, 6 pm.
Many members of the Zen Center attended the Women's March on Washington. With the banner designed by Jim Tiebout and the Abbot (Zen Women for Democracy), a group marched in DC; a group also took the banner to Austin where they were joined by other Zen practitioners. And many members marched in Houston. Everyone reports the event was inspiring and deeply moving.Read More
